How To Insert Video Into Keynote

Keynote is Apple’s powerful presentation tool, renowned for its ease of use and wide variety of themes and designs. Keynote allows you to create beautiful presentations in a few clicks. By adding video to your keynote presentations, you can make them even more appealing. Think about adding a moving background, for instance.

Adding video to your keynote presentation is not that difficult, we’ll show you a few tips on how to insert video into Keynote and how to control playback settings (so that you can let your videos loop).

How To Insert Video Into Keynote

There are several ways to insert video into Keynote:

Drag-from-finder method

  1. First, select the slide that you want to insert video into.
  2. Go to your finder window, select the desired video and just drag it onto the keynote slide. Tip: while dragging the video, press cmd + tab to switch from your finder window to keynote.

Media button method

  1. In the top-right corner of keynote, click the ‘Media’ button to open the media window.How To Insert Video Into Keynote - img 1
  2. Now click on ‘Movies’.

  4. In the bottom of the window, you’ll see a list of available movies. You can also search by entering text into the search field.
  5. Select a movie to preview it, then drag it from the preview window into the slide to insert your movie into the presentation.

Playback settings and behavior (loop, click to start, etc.)

You can also control how the movie behaves in the presentation. These settings are a bit hidden, to access them:

  3. Now you can control the behavior setting of your video:
  • You can choose the start and stopping point (in and out point) of your video by dragging the handles
  • You can choose a poster frame, which is the frame your video will show when it’s not playing.
  • Check if the movie will start when its clicked. Leaving the box unchecked will let the movie play automatically when the slide appears.
  • Repeat: you can let the video loop or play back and forth. If you want to use your video as a moving background, setting it to ‘loop’ is recommended.
  • You can also set the volume of the video.
